Schedule

Is your bejgli falling apart, has a relative taken offense, and are you running around trying to get the last-minute gifts? — Come join us instead for a laid-back, festive pre-Christmas evening at the Hajó. We promise there won’t be any “Last Christmas,” but there will be great music, fantastic songs, wonderful singers, and outstanding musicians. And of course, a little Christmas too!

On this evening, you’ll be reminded of the most beautiful Christmases—the joyful smiles, the lovely gifts, the delicious treats, and the wonderful music. You’ll hear the best songs from the past 100 years across a variety of genres, bringing back plenty of fond memories. Come to the A38 on December 20 for the Budapest Bár Christmas party. This time, the Budapest Bár band will be joined by Dóri Behumi, Bori Rutkai, Vera Tóth, Gyuri Ferenczi, László Kollár-Klemencz, and Misi Mező.

Budapest Bár has become one of Hungary’s most popular bands thanks to its heart-wrenching and heartwarming renditions of Gypsy music. The band owes its magical appeal to its outstanding musicians and the iconic vocalists of Hungarian rock music. Originally formed to record a single album, Budapest Bár has been performing for 19 years with thirteen singers in a completely unique lineup—perhaps this is precisely why it has become the most sought-after concert band, a regular performer at festivals and on major stages. The roots of Budapest Bár’s distinctive style—which has become its trademark—date back to the world of Budapest’s coffeehouses in the 1920s and 1930s. They reinterpret well-known and beloved songs by blending them with elements of Gypsy music, jazz, pop, rock, klezmer, and numerous other musical genres.

The original intention of Róbert Farkas, the leader and founder of Budapest Bár, was precisely to breathe new life into the genre of café Gypsy music, keeping old traditions alive and revitalizing them. Thanks to the band, long-forgotten melodies have re-entered the public consciousness and become part of youth culture. They have dusted off numerous old songs, revived forgotten ones, given well-known tunes a fresh twist, and, more recently, written several new songs. Different eras, cultures, styles, and age groups come together in their performances—perhaps this is why both young and old love the band, which has now become a favorite across generations.

Location

A38 Ship

Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
