On their new album, *Half-Told Tales*, the band expands upon their characteristic, thundering, melancholic sound—over which the singer’s voice shifts from declamation to a whisper and then to ever-increasing intensity—even further than in their previous works.

Arab Strap is a cult Scottish indie band celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with a new album and a concert series. This fall, they’ll embark on an exclusive, limited-stop European tour, during which they’ll perform just eight concerts.
The band’s distinctive, thumping, melancholic sound—over which the singer’s voice shifts from declamation to a whisper to ever-increasing intensity—is expanded even further on their new album, *Half-Told Tales*, compared to their previous work.
It is noteworthy that the album, set for release on September 4, 2026—almost exactly thirty years after their first single—spans genres from disco to metal to post-rock and spoken word, while also incorporating folk and electronic elements, yet still retains the band’s unique identity.
This is precisely where Arab Strap’s strength lies: they remain true to themselves while constantly experimenting with new musical directions. “The best way to celebrate our anniversary was to create something new, exciting, and inspiring,” says Aidan Moffat. “The last thing we wanted to be was a nostalgic band that just plays its old records endlessly.”
Malcolm Middleton adds: “We’re always experimenting with different styles, but it always sounds like us. Whether it’s samba rhythms, dance beats, or live drums, our identity comes through naturally in the studio.”
The album’s central theme is time—its relentless passage, which becomes particularly pronounced during a certain stage of life. For the duo, Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, this is the period after their fifties, when their environment is defined by such difficult topics as inflation, a decline in quality of life, wars, conflicts, rising extremism, populism, and the distortion of reality.
Despite this, the band retains its optimism: “I think there’s hope in it. There’s genuine joy on the album, too. I made a conscious effort to include that, because the previous one was very dark,” concludes Aidan Moffat.

Location
A38 Ship
Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
