Piroska Móga: Mother's Diary

In the first version of Mother's Diary, there was a character - my best friend, by the way - who I named Alice for the play. She sat with me at the first ultrasound when I found out there was something wrong. Later, when I was writing this scene, she helped me fill in what my brain had already erased...

A woman is not alone when she's pregnant, because if nothing else, a big pack of weirdos in white coats is sure to surround her. Yet a woman can be infinitely alone in the midst of her pregnancy, because she may not even have access to all the "growth and bumps" and changes and emotions and good bits of you... Then we do our work, and suddenly the White Rabbit slips away, jumps into the tree hole, and there is the bottomless, gaping abyss behind her, with all that has happened.

There is nothing to be done. I'll jump in too.

The character was left out of the scene and I became Alice...

The performance lasts about 60 minutes without intermission, followed by an art therapy processing session for those interested (also about 60 minutes)
