Incredible as it may seem, one of the most important African artists of the last thirty years, the multi-coloured Afropop star Angélique Kidjo has never performed in Hungary. Until now, that is - and now her 40th anniversary tour is fortunately taking in Müpa Budapest, showcasing the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter's career highlights from her greatest hits to her latest solo album. Human rights activism is an important part of it all, as is the fact that he shares songs with like-minded pop stars Peter Gabriel, Sting and Bono.

Angélique Kidjo comes from a family of artists, but her career has also been influenced by the fact that as a young girl she had a difficult time in Benin's education system. After releasing her first album in 1981, she was forced to leave her homeland to find a new home in Paris, where she became the lead singer of the band Pili Pili in the second half of the 1980s, but her talent called for a solo career, which began with her first major international recording contract and her 1991 hit album, the world music chart-topping LP Logozo. Since then, he has become one of the genre's biggest stars, cleverly crossing his country's richly rhythmic fon music with other influences, but his colourful and award-winning oeuvre is capable of many shades of nuance. Danceable Afropop, more authentic instrumentation, a trilogy of albums exploring his African roots, Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban twists, a tribute to Cuban Celia Cruz, and more. He is happy to collaborate with jazz, soul and pop stars, and he is as happy to work with young producers as he is to tackle a classic Talking Heads album one by one. He is a huge and influential musical and human force to be seen and heard!
