On 15 March 1848, the revolution breaks out in Pest. Among the March youths, however, is the emperor's informer. At the news of Jellasic's attack, the freedom fighters flooded into the army. Petőfi is also in the camp and inspires the soldiers with his poetry. In January 1849, however, the cause of freedom was lost and Petőfi went to Transylvania to join General Bem's army. With the help of Áron Gábor's cannons, Bem's troops are victorious, but the battle continues...
This monumental film commemorates the heroes of the War of Independence, both famous and anonymous. However, it is not without its faults (see: schematism, subtle distortions of history), which characterise the period of its creation, the first half of the 1950s.
The film has been restored in colour, enhanced and digitised.
