Art and climate change

Art and Climate Change, published in the Thames & Hudson World of Art series, is an overview of contemporary art practices that are ecologically engaged and focused on climate crisis, active and inspiring action, and exploring the structures that threaten human survival. In five chapters, curators Maja and Reuben Fowkes examine artworks that respond to the Anthropocene and its devastating effects on our world; from landscapes decimated by the continuing extinction of nature and desolation through exploitation, to the art of marginalised communities most affected by the inequalities of climate change. Exploring decolonial reparation and the ecological restoration of depleted landscapes and their intersections, the artists' praxis of addressing and reflecting on the climate crisis is primarily constructed from activist practices, ecological theories, scientific approaches and indigenous experiences.

In the first half of the book launch, the authors will present their theories on the links between art and climate change, based on a planetary approach, followed by presentations and a discussion with some of the artists featured in the book.
