The lineup of Vito Szelevényi's recently formed quartet may give the impression of a rather traditional jazz band. Although their music draws heavily from the jazz tradition, it cannot ultimately be categorised so simply. The bandleader graduated in classical trumpet from the Budapest Academy of Music and, since he was a young boy, he has listened to and heard a variety of styles of music, all of which have inspired his own compositions. His groove-driven, rhythmic ideas are transformed into melodic, intimate songs. Above the simple, repetitive written bases, improvisation leads the musicians on new paths. Thanks to the successive and almost interdependent bases, there are often no distinct, separate tracks. This evening will be the fourth live concert of the recently formed group.
