Teréz Szilágyi: Most important message of all

In Teréz Szilágyi's rich, multifaceted oeuvre, which is not without its back-and-forths, the use of dichotomies and their resolution play a prominent role. The most important for her is the already dual nature of light and the resulting oppositions: light-shadow, light-darkness, constancy-change/temporality, mirror-reflection, straight-diffused, rotating-monotonous. But in her paintings and installations, the exploration of three-dimensional space also becomes a driving force: she is preoccupied with the seemingly small but highly rich area of depth, planarity, and barely-relief, from the play of painted-over/covered planes to the expanding universe. And while many of her works may appear geometric, their rigor is constantly broken, the order is thrown off balance, stillness turns into movement, and the momentary becomes timeless.

The works on display at Ladó Gallery are, on the one hand, very personal (portraits of domesticated wild animals); on the other hand, they reveal themes that are perceptible to everyone, such as the passing of time, the burden of self-imposed responsibility, or the disappearance of ourselves and our world. In addition to previously made drawings, the exhibition will also feature paintings from this year and an installation designed for the gallery space.
