UNSCHOOLING (FR)

"Apart from perhaps Crass or The Beach Boys, few bands can claim to sound like their namesake. Unschooling, the newly formed four-piece band that links Rouen and Montreal, elegantly ticks this off.

Art-rocker Women's students, these home-schooled nerds have thrown out the textbooks and put a deceptively mathematical rock spin on the curriculum, where complex guitar themes flirt with lo-fi spontaneity.

The foursome, made up of former MNNQNS members and other Rouenites, built their own open university on the pillars of post-punk. The result is as noisy as it is sensitive. They'd still end up in the dean's office if it weren't for a few Pop fragments that occasionally bolster their grades."

Rumbling electric guitars, motorically pulsing drums and deep

thundering, hypnotic bass characterise their chemistry. It's worth knowing

lip-reading to understand the lyrics.

From two-chord head-shaking tracks to quarter-hour psy jams, there's a lot to explore in their repertoire.

commuter (GR)

Commuter started as a musical project of Dionysis Koutavas (vocals/guitar) in Athens in 2019. Initially inspired by the post-punk sounds of the Canadian scene (Women, Prooccupations) and the new wave of the UK (Shame, Squid), among others, the project finally evolved into a full band in October 2021 with the addition of Dimitris Koutsoulis (drums), Spilios Kakkas (bass) and Alexandros Kolokythas (guitar). The band has released its debut self-titled EP, which has received rave reviews and is already being talked about as the next big thing in Greece.
