This big band is characterised by the fact that it has built up an unrivalled collection of performance pieces and an impressive collection of composer CDs from its own compositions - and arrangements of classical composers. The "standard", of course, has long since extended beyond jazz arrangements of musical hits to include much-played pieces by the outstanding composers of modern jazz, from Charlie Parker to Bob Mintzer. The MAO's repertoire has long included Gershwin's The Man I Love and the world-famous Sad Sunday from a pub on Pest Boulevard. The orchestra's performance evokes the great artists who have sung this song. The vocal soloist on this evening will again be the MAO's frequent vocal soloist, the excellent Nikoletta Szőke. But there is also a soundtrack prequel to another Hungarian hit, orchestrated by Kristóf Bacsó, with the title song from László Dés' The Great Journey and other "hits".
