The Alto for Two quintet is led by two female alto saxophonists, Kika Sprangers and Irene Reig. Their musicianship is rooted in the jazz tradition, but their distinct artistic visions set them on different paths. Both have carved out their own unique, contemporary saxophone sounds, which in this formation sometimes diverge and sometimes overlap in unexpected ways.

The ensemble's repertoire consists mainly of compositions by the two of them, and the members include young musicians familiar to Opus audiences such as Catalan pianist Xavi Torres and Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong. Sprangers and Reig also seek to raise awareness of the often underestimated role of women instrumentalists in jazz and modern music, in addition to a diverse musical dialogue. The first imprint of their musical journey together will be released in the near future on Berthold Records.
