Debate theatre is a participatory theatre genre that explores important social issues. It combines the tools of theatre with the principles of social engagement. Its technique can be used on stage and in the classroom.
In this five-day summer closing workshop of the Thought Generator, we will explore the technique of theatre of debate. You can try your hand as a director, actor, dramaturg, facilitator or debater. Over the five days, we will learn in detail about the technique, structure and possibilities of the theatre of debate, and you will be able to put together a performance yourself.
Structure of the week
Day 1 - 10:00-16:00: Getting to know each other, introducing the topic
Day 2 - 10:00-16:00: Concept for the discussion questions
Day 3 - 10:00-16:00: Dramaturgy of the debate theatre
Day 4 - 10:00-16:00: The actors of the debate theatre (dramaturg, actor, director, facilitator, expert, debaters)
Day 5 - 10:00-16:00: Rehearsal and summary
Minimum group size: 5 people, maximum group size: 20 people
Age group: 15-99 years
