Schedule

Ikebana is a traditional Japanese flower art. Unlike European practice, it uses brushstroke-like lines and empty space rather than colour and mass; it is characterised by asymmetry held in dynamic balance rather than symmetry. It is restrained in colour, treats plants with great imagination and usually achieves a strong effect with few materials. He is linked to both the nature approach of the ancient Japanese Shinto religion and Buddhism.

The workshop is held by Judit Várhelyi.

Judit Várhelyi is an architect, university lecturer and ikebana artist who has lived in Tokyo for more than two decades. She studied Japanese floral art under master ikebana teacher Takagi Suisen Sogetsu and earned her 'flower name' - Suisho 水晶, crystal. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and also gives demonstrations and courses. "I have come into closer contact with Japanese culture through ikebana".
