Adyton Christmas
2024-12-18T19:00:00.000Z
György Szabados organised Christmas concerts at the Kassák Club in the 1980s and early 1990s, and then at the Fonó. After his death, in 2015, the Adyton Art Foundation, which aims to preserve his legacy and keep it alive, will organise a programme of events continuing the original initiative, this time for the 9th time, under the title Adyton Christmas.

Szabados's musical world is complex and multifaceted, with many paths leading in many directions and many points of connection. Among his former colleagues, István Grencsó and Szilárd Mezei built their own musical world based mainly on the technique and spirit of free music making. Today, both of them have moved quite far away from traditional jazz, and could be labelled as improvised contemporary music beyond free jazz. Róbert Benkő is Grencsó's oldest collaborator, who has been with him in his constant search for new paths and changes of direction, and with whom they have an intuitive understanding and understanding of each other. Barnabás Dukay, the hidden icon of contemporary music, comes from a completely different direction. A composer, musicologist and Bach scholar, Dukabá is a man who believes that in music, you have to improvise what you can. This could even be the motto of his tenth year of collaboration with Grencsó, during which they have made wonderful and difficult to classify recordings (Things Left Behind; Essays; When the Dawn...).
The stage will thus be taken by three composers and an inspired bassist. The absence of percussion is no coincidence, as their music is not rhythmically based. Composing in real time is one of the most risky art forms, with no safety anchors, no safety net (say, sheet music). It depends on nuances whether it will be free-flying or free-falling. They've never missed before, showing the wonder of creation in deep attunement.
