The works of the students of MATE Rippl-Rónai Institute of Arts and Theatre, Photography BA and MA
BA and MA students of Photography from the Rippl-Rónai Institute of Arts and Theatre at theHungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences participated in an individual research program during the spring semester of the 2024/25 academic year. The program, supported by the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center, allowed students to study and analyse the life and work of André Kertész.
The aim was to give participants insight into the turning points in Kertész’s life, his creative attitude, and his unwavering commitment to his artistic principles. The program also encouraged students to deepen their understanding of his oeuvre and to reveal the connections between his life experiences and his work.
Each participant independently selected either a particular work by Kertész or a distinctive and significant event in his life that was influential to his career. They then sought to evoke André Kertész’s spirit through a newly created series of photography inspired by their own creative visions and research findings.
The resulting exhibition serves both as a tribute to André Kertész’s legacy and as an opportunity for contemporary visual interpretations to bring us closer to understanding Kertész’s mindset and unique artistic approach.
