Conversation with László F. Földényi + guided tour

At the closing guided tour of the exhibition "The Sea of Ice that has vanished - Contemporary Reflections on the Art of Caspar David Friedrich", the curator Barnabás Zemlényi-Kovács and the exhibiting artists will present the works and discuss their background and their connection to the oeuvre of Caspar David Friedrich.

Afterwards, at 18:00, Barnabás Zemlényi-Kovács will talk to László F. Földényi about Friedrich's art, its afterlife and its relevance today. László F. Földényi has been working on Friedrich's oeuvre for about 50 years, and has dedicated two volumes to his work, and on the occasion of last year's 250th anniversary his essay on him, entitled In the Footsteps of a Wanderer, was published in the journal Jelenkor.

László Földényi F. Földényi (1952) Hungarian aesthete, art critic, literary historian and university professor, winner of the Attila József and Széchenyi Prizes. His first monograph on Caspar David Friedrich was published in 1986, his second, Der Maler und der Wanderer, was published in 1986. Caspar David Friedrich's Urkino in German in 2021. His most recent books in Hungarian are Newton's Dream (2021), Museum Walks. 1992-2019 (2022) and The Long Shadow of the Guillotine (2023). In 2020, he was awarded the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding, one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the German-speaking world, for his book The Praise of Melancholy.
