This ballet version of Lehár's popular evergreen, choreographed by Ronald Hynd, has been one of the most popular pieces on the ballet stage since 1975. Its genre is difficult to classify: with its classical elements and humorous turns, it is best described as a comic ballet. The Merry Widow has only been in the repertoire of the Hungarian National Ballet since 2014 - surprisingly, Hynd's work had never been performed on a Hungarian stage before, despite its domestic relevance. The clownish comedy with the wonderful melodies of the well-known operetta was premiered at the Erkel Theatre and after touring abroad, it will finally be seen by the Opera House audience.

Hungarian State Opera
The Hungarian State Opera House is the only theatre in Hungary with a large company, specialising in operas and ballets. The building is one of Budapest's most important 19th century monuments. It was built in neo-Renaissance style according to the plans of Miklós Ybl. The richly decorated interior was designed by renowned Hungarian artists, including Mór Than, Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely.
