Spinifex Maxximus (DE/BE/US/NL/PT/GR)
2025-04-03T18:00:00.000Z
The Spinifex sextet takes its name from a hardy Australian grass, and its music at first glance sounds like a mix of free jazz, punk rock and contemporary music, but beneath the surface lies a rich tapestry of rhythmic lines inspired by Middle Eastern and Indian musical traditions. The band originally formed as a nonet in 2005, and their current line-up was finalised five years later, and they have been tirelessly honing their collaborative skills through touring and recording ever since. At the core of their concept is the interweaving of meticulously composed musical structures and overwhelming improvisational freedom.
Opus now features the world premiere of the Maxximus project, which Spinifex has brought to life to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary with a special line-up. With the help of three guest artists, the orchestra is expanding its musical palette and opening up an even richer acoustic sound. The music for the project has been composed by Elisabeth Coudoux, artistic director Tobias Klein, Bart Maris, Jasper Stadhouders and Gonçalo Almeida, tailored to the musicians' individuality and strengths.
