Schedule

In 2024, the ELTE Szemle was held for the first time, with the aim of community building, knowledge transfer and workshop work, as well as to draw attention to film education within the university. The event was a great success, with the BEST OF screening and most of the blocks sold out, and ELTE films have since gone on to be screened at prestigious screenings and win awards, so there was no question for the organisers that the festival would be held again in 2025. This year, the event will again have a university focus, but it also aims to reach out to the wider film industry and the general public.

The main venue for this year's ELTE Szemle will be the Studio K Theatre, where the opening ceremony will take place on 29 April, followed by the first competition blockbuster. This year, the festival is keen to raise awareness of the relationship between film and the arts, and on the opening night, the audience will be able to see Prudencia Hart's The Curious Exodus at Studio K. The screenings will be followed by three days of screenings, including a series of master classes, workshops and round tables to explore the interconnections and current trends in different areas of film. A two-part photography exhibition will also be part of the programme. The callwords for the artistic perspective will be JELEN and for the professional perspective WERK. Details are available in the call for entries. University students can submit their work until 31 March. This year's ELTE Szemle will close with the BEST OF screening at the Pushkin Cinema, with the best films being screened at the Round Hill Festival. In addition, this year a selection of films by students of the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University of Eger will be screened as a guest university.

The films will be judged by a jury of professionals, including cinematographer Gergely Pálos (A dove sat on a branch to ponder existence, Stories of Infinity, A Silent Friend) and director Bálint Dániel Sós (All is Well), Dér Asia, documentary film director (Story of My Mothers, I Will Not Die), László Csuja, director (Valley of Flowers, Gentle), Natasha Stork, actress (Jupiter's Moon, Preparing for Indefinite Togetherness, Ice Cream Can Be Dangerous). This year, in addition to the BEST OF, the jury will also award a grand prize of 500 000 HUF to the winner, who will be able to use it for his/her next project.

In the coming months, news and updates on the ELTE Szemle will be gradually added, so keep an eye on the event's website and the festival's social media platforms. These will be the platforms where the professional programmes and panelists will be posted, and where viewers will be able to find out about the films as the screenings approach.

Canon is the main sponsor of the event, with Everybody's Cinema as the main sponsor and technical contractor. ELTE film students have until 17 March to submit their films via the link below.
