The Trio Spilliaert is an ensemble dedicated to the revival of lesser-known repertoire, inviting us on a journey through Belgian music of the mid-20th century. True to its commitment to illuminating composers past and present, the group presents a programme where post-romantic lyricism meets the elegance of salon music.
Lucie Vellère, a pupil of Joseph Jongen, develops a sophisticated and expressive writing style in her trio, which is also influenced by Gabriel Fauré. Her rich and subtle language follows the post-romantic tradition, blending harmonic depth with fluid melodies. In contrast, Alex de Taeye's works create a lighter atmosphere, rooted in the aesthetics of salon music. Founder of the Royal Conservatoire of Mons, Taeye created music with a subtle elegance, favouring an accessible and glamorous style that reflects his taste for musical miniatures. Balancing expressive depth and stylistic clarity, this programme celebrates the diversity and richness of Belgian music from the first half of the 20th century.
