Magyar Valentin and the Korossy quartet
Valentin Magyar and the Korossy Quartet (Csongor Korossy-Khayll, Éva Osztrosits - violin, András Kurgyis - viola, Gergely Devich - cello) will perform two of the greatest masterpieces of chamber music, namely César Franck's Piano Quintet from 1879 and Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Quintet from 1940. At first hearing, the musical language of the two composers could hardly be more different: Franck's is characterised by a rich and complex Romantic harmonic idiom, while Shostakovich's is a much more transparent and clearer structure. However, the works are united by their use of classical forms - Shostakovich's quintet, for example, begins with a Prelude and Fugue - and by their serious, earnest character.

Valentin Magyar started playing the piano in his hometown of Balassagyarmat at the age of five and was accepted into the special talents class at the Liszt Academy of Music at the age of fourteen. He is currently a master's student at the Liszt Academy with Gábor Farkas and Dénes Várjon, while at the same time studying with Kirill Gerstein at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. He is a regular participant in concert series and festivals in Hungary and abroad, and is also active as a chamber musician, having performed with such distinguished artists as Kristóf Baráti, Boris Berman, Jacques Rouvier, Christoph Poppen and Claudio Martinez-Mehner. His first CD, Sentimental Moments, was released in April 2024 on Hungaroton.
Founded in 2018, the Korossy Quartet's objectives are to perpetuate the famous Hungarian string quartet tradition and to present the broadest possible repertoire to Hungarian and foreign audiences. They are supported in this endeavour by such renowned artists as Günter Pichler, András Keller, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Péter Kováts, Katalin Kokas, Barnabás Kelemen, Márta Gulyás and Eberhard Feltz. They have been invited to numerous festivals in Hungary and abroad, including the Heidelberger Frühling Festival, Auer Festival, Quartettissimo Festival and the Budapest Festival Academy.
