The Scooter ensemble visited Hungary in 1995 and performed in Sarkad, a settlement bordering Romania in the southern Great Plain with 9,000 inhabitants. The life of the quiet village was stirred by the most popular band in Eurotrance at the time, whose concert was attended by young people from all over the country. The members of the Scooter, along with their companions, arrive by minibus at the House of Culture and have received hospitality they may not have experienced before. They enter the building and then the ceremony begins in German and Hungarian, at the end of which the mayor hands the band a rug, saying that a magic carpet, „, will fly them to the top of the charts. ” All this is a valuable moment of art house culture, from an age when it was still one of the most important spaces of social life. The very surreal document of the event can be found on YouTube, the band also took it as an example.

Schedule

The aim of the performance is to present the post-socialist art house culture of the 90s with the help of contemporary jazz and improvisational theater. The piece Scooter Sarkadon aims to show how the life of a community changes when famous people come among them. The performance is about an hour, by Péter Ajtai, who in this work tries to create something that has characterized his bands so far, but in a much more closed form: freedom of the performer with a system of consensual rules in a community. Ajtai wishes to draw attention to the fact that the disappearance of Hungarian art house culture – at least the decrease in its role – left a gap in cultural life, as avant-garde music, folk music and light music easily coexisted in these places. In some ways, the House of Hungarian Music also wants to fill this space.
