Launched in 2006, Algerian Imarhan released his first album in 2016 is one of the leading teams in the new wave of Tuareg music. Already with this untitled debut album, he was able to stand out among the desert blues performers (Tinariwen, Bambino, Tamikrest, Dirtmusic, Mdou Moctar) who were active by then.

While their debut album is rooted in the tradition of meditative desert blues, their second album, 2018 Temet, goes beyond that and takes momentum, elevating rhythm thanks to the funk, fuzz, disco and rock elements mixed into sound. With this material, they were already much closer to the sound that characterizes their live performances: they provide an ecstatic, captivating performance.

Their last publication so far, Aboogit 2022, is once again characterized by more meditative, hypnotic-melancholic moods – we can see the great ensemble in Hungary for the first time.

Imarhan has only functioned as a touring band for a long time, and the experience of plenty of live performances has made their music focused and unique. Instead of just walking the desert, these nomadic travelers are now touring the world thinking about the challenges of the present. Their album Temet in the Tamasek language means „connections ” and Imarhan uses this as an energetic alarm call to unite to remind people: we are all connected and will only be able to solve problems by accepting these connections. , to bridge the growing gap between cultures.

Iyad Moussa Ben Abderahmane (aka Sadam) puts it this way: „We need to love each other, everyone should know their neighbor. We should think the same way as our predecessors. We should accept the knowledge of an elderly person who knows the world and passes on his knowledge to his children. ” Gruff Rhys, the frontman of the former indie-big gun Super Furry Animals band, is also contributing to a song on the band’s latest album.
