The Necks [AUS] - a hypnotic musical journey with the masters of improvisation

Active for more than 30 years, the Australian trio The Necks occupies a truly unique place on the international music map. Their music is rooted in jazz, yet defies conventional categorization – their live improvisations are minimalist, experimental, spiritual, and often hypnotically powerful musical journeys.

The Necks’ pieces often unfold from a single motif: through subtle repetitions and minute variations, they grow into vast sonic structures. What makes the group exceptional is that they never play the same piece twice – every concert creates a unique, unrepeatable musical moment.

Their long, slowly evolving compositions build in a hypnotic way, often grounded by a deeply pulsing groove. Across their eighteen albums, The Necks offer experiences that reveal something new with every listen.

Their music is deceptively simple, yet each hearing unveils new layers of magic. Not quite avant-garde, not exactly minimalist, ambient, or jazz – the music of The Necks may well be one of a kind in the entire world.
