Flanders on the Move | Donder (BE)

Hailing from Belgium, Donder builds its artistic world on unusual interpretations of the traditional piano trio lineup. Avoiding ready-made formulas, they paint abstract and plastic landscapes that can evoke feelings of calm, turmoil and wonder, while speaking unpretentiously about the sounds and stories of everyday life. The trio's latest album, De Wonderen, was released in November 2024 by the Belgian label W.E.R.F. Records. While their previous album, Het Verdriet, grew out of research focusing on Flemish folk music history, this time they collected and created new material without any concept or restrictions. The result is a chaotic mix of abstract and melodic songs, featuring solos, duets, and trios, but the band also made room for two pop song covers, a little whistling, and Norwegian lyrics to sing about the little wonders of everyday life as fully as possible.
