MAO Legendás Albumok | Bud Powell: The Amazing Bud Powell
The Amazing Bud Powell vol. 1-2
Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk's twin star on the piano, has gone down in jazz history. The album The Amazing Bud Powell was the second, epoch-making piece in Blue Note's new series. It is considered a fundamental work of bebop piano, featuring saxophonist Sonny Rollins and trumpeter Fats Navarro, among others. The recordings from 1949 and 1951 were later released on more extensive albums. The significance of the album is further enhanced by the fact that Powell was the first, after Dizzy Gillespie, to incorporate Afro-Cuban rhythms into the bebop sound. Although his life was complicated by addiction and mental illness, his music, like Monke's, continues to inspire musicians who are experimental and seeking new paths. The role of Powell will be played by the excellent Gábor Cseke, alongside József Barcza-Horváth and László Csízi, while the wind parts will be brought to life by saxophonists Balázs Cserta and Kornél Fekete-Kovács.
