Dutch Focus | Baars – Grencsó – Hock – Mezei – Miklós (NL/HU)

The quartet of István Grencsó, Szilárd Mezei, Ernő Hock, and Szilveszter Miklós brings together musicians who are all admirers of spontaneous music rooted in the moment. After many years of working behind the scenes, they took the stage together for the first time in February 2023. Their current concert is made even more special and complete by the participation of Ab Baars, whose work the quartet members regard as an inspiration and a kindred artistic endeavor. The Dutch saxophonist, clarinetist, and shakuhachi player lives for improvisation, and his extremely personal and decisive, yet clearly understandable musical style embodies the best of the Dutch improvisational scene. Baars and the Grencsó – Hock – Mezei – Miklós quartet invite the audience into the world of contemporary free music, which is rooted in the past and does not disappoint in terms of its vision for the future.
