According to Frederick Wiseman, the king of American documentary filmmaking, it is an “extraordinarily important film.”

Now, for one time only, it will be screened exclusively by Telex in Budapest, at Corvin Mozi.

My Undesirable Friends: Part One – Last Air in Moscow is a film about independent Russian journalism operating under the Putin regime.

Schedule

“The greatest achievement of the year.”

“The best documentary of the year.”

“One of the best films of the year—period.”

The director, Julia Loktev, who was born in the Soviet Union and now lives in the United States, filmed alone in Moscow using an old phone, around the newsroom of TV Rain—one of the last places where it was still possible to ask questions freely.

The film is an extraordinary document of what it means to remain a journalist in a country where those independent voices are branded as “foreign agents” by those in power.

The film runs 5.5 hours, screened in three parts with two intermissions.

Russian language, English subtitles.

Don’t let the length scare you—if this were a series, we’d binge-watch it at home.

Start: 3:00 PM

End: approx. 9:00 PM

Corvin Mozi, Budapest

According to current plans, the film will not receive a theatrical release and will not be shown at festivals—making this the only opportunity to see it on the big screen.

Location

Corvin Cinema

You cannot miss the bright yellow house of the Corvin district, the Corvin cinema, which is the only multiplex in Budapest today operating in a stand-alone building.
