TRIBE – afro funk jam sessions vol.2 hosted by The Mabon Dawud Republic
TRIBE – Afro Funk Jam Sessions Vol. 2, hosted by The Mabon Dawud Republic
TRIBE returns once again to the Kassa boat — and not with just anyone!
If you remember, a few years ago Felabration at Trafó was a massive hit: an hours-long giga concert celebrating Fela Kuti’s birthday, where everyone’s step counter went crazy from all the dancing. The legendary event series was curated by The Mabon Dawud Republic, which started as a one-off project and later traveled to Ghana, releasing both an album and an EP under the Budabeats label, collaborating with highlife and afrobeat world stars such as Pat Thomas and Dele Sosimi.
This band is like a white raven on the Budapest nightlife scene — they perform extremely rarely. This time, they are preparing an even more special repertoire, featuring guitar-centered music selected from Angola’s musical culture.

Schedule
This time’s lineup:
- Boros Levente – drums
- Krecsmáry Zsolt – drums
- Hock Ernő – bass
- Mészáros Ádám – guitar
- Bognár Szabolcs – keyboards

… and the list keeps growing!
The warm-up and closing sets will be handled by Ábáse (aka Bognár Szabolcs), who will be joining us straight from Berlin.
TRIBE Budapest’s new community music adventure on the Kassa boat is a regularly recurring, improvisational evening where some of the city’s most exciting musicians share the stage. Their goal is to collectively break down genre boundaries and show what happens when members of different bands meet in a shared, improvised musical universe, guided by the traditions of afrobeat and other world music styles.
KASSA ship
Up the Danube! Kassa aims to lure you on board Kassa, the new favourite of the electronic music audience in Budapest, moored on the most spectacular downtown stretch of the Danube! Wandering through the labyrinth of the ship's hull, space and time are completely eliminated, and the Martin Torus sound technology sounds with a dynamics and clarity that Budapest audiences have never experienced before. And to complete the audio-visual experience, a giant LED wall and countless robotic lights and other visual devices are also set up in the main hall.
