Budapest Ritmo is a special event in more ways than one. No other festival focuses so specifically on world music in Budapest, and this time there is a greater emphasis on conferences, film screenings and new emerging bands. This year Ritmo will be holding concerts in three different venues over four days, at the Hungarian House of Music, Szimpla Kert and Akvárium.
On the second day of the festival, the smaller bands will take centre stage, with the Showcase competition winners performing on Thursday. The competition was judged by three experts, Balázs Weyer from Hangvetőt, Bojan Djordjevic from World Music Festival and singer-songwriter Ruth Koleva. In the end, six bands were given the opportunity to perform, mostly Hungarian, but also from Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria. Entry is free!
Szimpla Garden
One of Budapest's most famous venues is the Szimpla Kert. Although nowadays it is clearly designed for tourists, this doesn't change the fact that there are few places where you can experience the old ruin pub feeling.
