RIPOFF RASKOLNIKOV
At the age of 18, Ripoff Raskolnikov set out into the world, touring European countries as a street musician. Initially he was interested in European folk music, but gradually he developed a songwriting attitude rooted in American folklore, which has influenced the music of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and even the Rolling Stones. His iconic stage appearance was first seen by Hungarian audiences in November 1987. Since then, he has given countless concerts here, and Hungary is now one of his homes. His most recent album, Small World, was released in 2019. His songs cover the full spectrum of human emotions, such as love, travel, everyday problems, passion, loss, the pursuit of beauty and the hunger for life.
Ripoff Raskolnikov will release a new double concert album in 2021.
The Ripoff Raskolnikov Band is one of the most sophisticated representatives of the Americana style (Americana is a collective name for a musical movement that combines elements of blues, folk, singer-songwriter genres in a unique way - e.g. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Steve Earle, etc.)
Raskolnikov has been living in Hungary for almost 20 years now, and many of our compatriots would be envious of his eclectic vocabulary. His band is made up of the best session musicians.
He is a native speaker of English and is considered by many to be a songwriter of a standard comparable to the gentlemen mentioned above. His records have recently been receiving increasingly good reviews abroad.
His band performs regularly in the region, and in 2022 they represented Hungary at the European Blues Challenge.
