Shabaka Hutchings is one of the greatest figures in modern jazz fusion, as evidenced by the fact that he has performed and released music with three of his own excellent bands, as well as working with Floating Points and Mulatu Astatke. This time, he comes to Budapest with his trio The Comet Is Coming to present their third full-length album, released this autumn.
The band is characterised by hard-hitting grooves, soaring sax runs and noisy synth tracks. This is clearly Shabaka's most danceable project yet, and I don't think there's any other musical act that can say they've been Boiler Room and NPR Tiny Desk performers. As further listening, it's definitely worth checking out the trio's 2019 album Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery, which features both hard-hitting, energized songs and more laid-back spoken word tracks. So, on 31 March, danceable jazz, experiencable apocalypse, The Comet is Coming at the Hungarian House of Music.
