Synopsis: Jude (Martin Donovan) is a literature teacher at university, but he's fed up with teaching and his students are getting on his nerves. His lectures on the works of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky sometimes turn into boredom, sometimes into fights. Only the interest of a pretty schoolgirl keeps him going...

"I work out in advance what kind of movement I want to see. I realised a long time ago that the composition of the images and the movement of the characters are closely linked to the rhythm and the dialogue. Jean-Luc Godard's works from the 70s and 80s are my favourites. The way he moves people around, the way he sets the scene, makes for very visual and sensual films. While their thoughtfulness is also very serious." (Hal Hartley)

Invited speaker: film director András Sólyom

Location

Nyitott Műhely

The Open Workshop is a fine place, a place where many different kinds of people can feel at home, which is to say that there is something that is rare and difficult to create, the spirit of the place. This spirit is very sympathetic to me, because it means both that there are shows that interest me and that the occasional stew is okay. And that I'm likely to meet people there who I'm happy to meet, and it's not even out of the question that they're me. Such public (open) spaces are rare in Budapest.
