Once upon a time, once upon a time, there was a beat era // Water cannon, or whatever you want

On 4 August 1984, something happened in Hungary that had never happened before: between two concerts, a clash lasting about an hour and a half between the police and the fans of the Zenkaros, during which water cannons and a considerable number of police officers and police dogs were deployed. The absurdity of the situation was compounded by the fact that it all took place at the Peace Festival, a two-day social-religious event organised by the Patriotic People's Front, the National Peace Council and the weekly newspaper Képes Újság in Pusztavacs, in the middle of the country. What was behind the unprecedented events, what led to the police brutality and how the clashes took place,

and what the consequences of all this were, is the subject of this lecture.
