The MODERN ART ORCHESTRA is a jazz and contemporary classical music ensemble led by Kornél Fekete-Kovács trumpeter. The widely acclaimed Hungarian jazz orchestra was founded in October 2005 on the initiative of artistic director Kornél Fekete-Kovács, one of the most outstanding young musicians of the Hungarian jazz and classical music scene at the time. Since its foundation, the MAO has quickly become one of the exemplary initiatives of the Hungarian jazz scene.
Schedule
In line with the intentions of the founder Kornél Fekete-Kovács, the ensemble's activities are based on the borderline between contemporary jazz and classical music, and it compiles its repertoire, concert programmes and publications. Their primary goal is to motivate and inspire contemporary composers and to present the music of today. Among their efforts, the cultivation of the Hungarian musical heritage and jazz traditions is of particular importance, but the musical education of young people is also an important element of their existence.
Since its founding in 2005, the Modern Art Orchestra's inspirational medium has touched many Hungarian and foreign composers. Among them are such great artists as Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Péter Eötvös, Gyula Babos, György Kurtág, Gergely Vajda, Kálmán Oláh, László Melis, Michael Borbély, Nándor Götz, Mike Garson, David Liebman, Rick Margitza, Hans Lüdemann, Bob Mintzer, Brian Charette, Dániel Dinyés (all this without claiming completeness)
They regularly host outstanding soloists from the Hungarian and international music scene. In the past decades, they have performed with musicians such as Tom Harrell, Mike Garson, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Miklós Lukács, Mihály Dresch, Ennio Morricone, György Kurtág Jr, New York Voices, Rebeka Bakken, Silje Neergard, Harlem Gospel, Mezzoforte, Rhoda Scott, László Dés, Veronika Harcsa, László Fassang, László Gőz, László Gőz.
They have performed with the National Choir of Hungary, the Kodály Choir of Debrecen, the Danubia Symphony Orchestra of Óbuda, but have also recorded with Balázs Szabó and his band, or with György Ferenczi and the first rackák orchestra of Pest.
As a resident band, they create and perform at the Budapest Music Center, but they are also regular participants in the Palace of Arts and its programmes.
On their concert tours abroad, they have played on stages in New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, San Diego, Shanghai, Berlin, Cologne, Bremen, Bratislava, Bucharest, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sofia, and other cities.
