Algiers (US)
Atlanta has not only given the world Coca-Cola, but also one of the most committed contemporary critics of the ideology it represents: the band Algiers, who have taken the critique of capitalism and turned it into dense gospel-punk-pop. The very name of the band is a kind of manifesto: it commemorates the French colonial adventure, the Algerian war.
Algiers was founded a decade ago, but it became really active when the members, led by the main ideologue-composer-lyricist Franklin James Fisher, moved to London. The quartet's unique output - which strangely blended the anarchic electro-punk of Atari's Teenage Riot, the sultry neo-soul blues of Alabama Shakes, the new rave of Klaxons and who knows what else you wouldn't think could mix - quickly caught the attention of one of the hottest indie labels, and the first album was released on Matador.
It's hard to find anything more exciting from 2015 than the Algiers' album: a production that condenses the most serious social themes into sweeping, sweeping, pulsating rave-punk anthems and soulful blues-gospel songs, is quite unique and unprecedented in contemporary pop.
The Algiers were a touring support act for Depeche Mode earlier this year, and former Bloc Party member Matt Tong has been behind the drums. The band is not only strong in its message and unique in its music, but critics are also euphoric about the live performance.

A38 Ship
Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
