Schedule

- 18:00-20:00Nabucco
Verdi's Nabucco was a turning point in the composer's life, his first truly overwhelming success. He was enchanted by the powerful biblical story of the libretto, and this enchantment will remain with us forever through the depth and passion of the music. And the chorus "Va, pensiero..." became an anthem of freedom as soon as it was first performed in 1842. In Gergely Kesselyák's spectacular staging, the story of the changing balance of power and religion, the destruction of the first sanctuary and the Babylonian captivity is presented in an eternal cycle of epochal changes in world history.

The Hungarian State Opera House is the only theatre in Hungary with a large company, specialising in operas and ballets. The building is one of Budapest's most important 19th century monuments. It was built in neo-Renaissance style according to the plans of Miklós Ybl. The richly decorated interior was designed by renowned Hungarian artists, including Mór Than, Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely.
