There are legendary operas. Like this Puccini work about a young Parisian bohemian, in which one of the most beautiful romances in opera begins with a burnt-out candle and a lost key. There are also legendary operatic productions, such as this Kálmán Nádasdy production, which, with its magical set by Gusztáv Oláh, has been on the Opera's programme since 1937 and has so far been performed nearly 900 times. There are some things that time does not catch. It certainly didn't on this wonderful performance.
Hungarian State Opera
The Hungarian State Opera House is the only theatre in Hungary with a large company, specialising in operas and ballets. The building is one of Budapest's most important 19th century monuments. It was built in neo-Renaissance style according to the plans of Miklós Ybl. The richly decorated interior was designed by renowned Hungarian artists, including Mór Than, Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely.
