The American Dream is out of reach for a generation of Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal). Unemployment, ambitious goals, and desperate trying set him on a path that leads him to the abyss. Every night, while the city sleeps the sleep of the righteous, blood-story hungry mini-crews equipped with speeding cars, cameras and blaring police radios raid the grimy streets of sprawling Los Angeles. They sketch from one crime scene to the next, beating the police to the scene, and sell the footage to television stations to turn blood into dollars. Lou is intoxicated by the opportunity to make big bucks and runs roughshod over everything and everyone in the dark.
