The Madách Theatre brought another world success to Budapest: in September 2022 it premiered the musical Tootsie, directed by Tamás Szirtes.

Schedule
After its Broadway premiere, the musical will be staged for the first time at the Madách Theatre in a non-replica version, with its own director's concept, set, costumes and choreography.
Yes, that's IT! Many of us have seen - and taken to heart - the American comedy film "Similar", in which Dustin Hoffman gave an unforgettable performance as an obsessive actor who knows everything about theatre, but has a lot to learn about real life. Those who have seen the film already know whether the talented but unpredictable and egocentric Michael will finally find happiness.
Now we have good news not only for them, but for the rest of us too: the Madách Theatre will stage its latest premiere, a frenetic musical stage adaptation of "The Golden Girl", in September 2022!
Michael Dorsey is a versatile and brilliant actor, but his legendarily difficult nature means that there are few directors in New York willing to cast him. In desperation, he decides to pull one last hair-raising stunt before his youthful dreams are dashed... - and to his dismay, it works, and before he can blink twice, he's already rehearsing a highly suspect Broadway musical! Michael's popularity is growing, but he soon realises he's on a razor's edge: since the unexpected turn of events, he's been threatened with professional, financial and personal bankruptcy - but he's also within striking distance of success, fortune and love! In fact, if he plays his cards right, he might even be able to breathe life into that hideous play...

Madách Theater
There is still an “era” in the Madách Theater. The era of the rise and success of musical theater. The change began in 1983 with Cats, whose decades-long series of success provided a solid foundation for the next defining step: the legendary 2003 performance of The Phantom of the Opera. Both performances were directed by Tamás Szirtes, who was elected director of the Madách Theater in 2004. Under his direction, the Madách Theater embarked on a path that has resulted in a successful musical theater of outstanding quality. World-famous musicals line up in his program, which are usually in large blocks, so-called they are staged according to the en suite playing order, and each performance remains on the show for years. The basic aim of the theater is to give the viewer the same experience even after 10 years as at the premiere.
