The year is 1971, in the United States, during the compromised Richard Nixon presidency and the hippie era. Raoul Duke, a sports reporter, is assigned to cover a motorcycle race in the Nevada desert. He sets off with his friend, the lawyer Dr Gonzo, but their destination is not the desert, but Las Vegas, the gambling city. The two men set out on an adventure to find the American dream, armed with every kind of drug and alcohol in existence.
