Book launch of Ildikó Fehér "Károly Pulszky's purchases of wall paintings from Italy for the Museum of Fine Arts"

Schedule
The significance of Ildikó Fehér's work lies in the fact that it sheds light on a little-known corner of Italian culture in Hungary, an endeavour fully supported by the Italian Cultural Institute. The art historian does this by analysing in detail a rather unique, yet little-known collection. The Museum of Fine Arts has the largest collection of Italian frescoes in Europe outside Italy. This collection of 86 murals, mainly medieval and Renaissance, has been enriched throughout the 20th century, but at its core are 74 frescoes bought in Italy between 1893 and 1895 by Károly Pulszky, director of the National Gallery, the predecessor of the Museum of Fine Arts.
The Italian Institute of Culture in Budapest
The Italian Institute of Culture in Budapest (Istituto italiano di cultura per l'Ungheria) is an Italian state institution, established in 1937 to develop cultural relations between Italy and Hungary. It offers the opportunity to learn the Italian language, visit the library and temporary exhibitions, Italian-language films, and also offers grants, scholarships and job opportunities.
