Bowie and friends vol. 7: Mark Bolan

2024-03-20T19:00:00.000Z

After the unexpected death of David Bowie in 2016, Hungarian musicians decided to commemorate one of pop culture's most influential artists with a concert of Bowie songs and excerpts from his oeuvre at the A38 Ship. Although the concert was planned at the time as a one-off, both the musicians and the audience wanted a reunion. So the group decided to reunite for one concert a year, but to extend the show with songs by some of the musicians Bowie collaborated with.

For the first time in 2018, Iggy Pop, for the second time in 2019 Lou Reed, in early 2020 John Lennon, in autumn 2021 Mick Jagger, in spring 2022 Brian Eno and the last concert in 2023 Bob Dylan.

The next night in March 2024 will feature a selection of songs by Marc Bolan.

Schedule

The friendship with the legendary T-Rex frontman dates back to 1964. Bowie even wrote a song about Bolan called "Lady Stardust" in 1972. In 1977, shortly before Bolan's death, they even appeared on a TV show together.

The concert, like all the previous occasions, will be unique and unrepeatable; much of the set will be renewed year after year.

Location

A38 Ship

Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
