From hockey to real passionate songs - Jonathan Roy in Budapest for the first time
When he was a child, Canadian singer-songwriter Jonathan Roy thought he would follow in the footsteps of his famous hockey player father, but realising his true passion was music, he hung up his skates and devoted all his energy to creating. And how well he did! Over the years he has released four albums, and after a journey of self-discovery, his latest material returns with a renewed, more unpolished, more self-identified sound. Now we'll be able to see this new face at Jonathan Roy's first Budapest show on 31 May at the A38 Ship.

It has been a long, unexpected and literally winding road to Jonathan Roy's songs today. Growing up between Colorado and Montreal, it was not unusual for Jonathan to feel restless, but a few years ago that weight became increasingly overwhelming. Even though he had been making music for years, he felt something was missing. So like a modern-day beat poet, Jonathan decided to hit the road.

A38 Ship
Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
