The Necks, an Australian band that has been around since the late eighties, are one of the most important cult bands in the southern hemisphere. The work of this piano, drum and bass trio is almost impossible to pin down, ranging from avant-garde jazz to minimalist ambient process music to krautrock improvisation, but none of these would be accurate, so let's just say that The Necks' music is something to be heard and experienced.

Active since the late 1980s, Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass) have released seventeen studio albums, two film soundtracks and five live albums, and have worked with electronic dance music group Underworld and noise band Swans. Their music is at once clean and simple, yet deep and richly layered. Minimalist, long-unfolding, yet instantly engaging. Their stunningly expansive songs are the hallmark of their recent album Travel, released in 2023.
