The cemetery in this small Irish town has a limited number of graves, so every year they have to make room for the newly deceased. It's Mick Down's job to do it, and he has no problem until he gets personally involved. Friends and foes alike are at his side during this difficult time; the trouble is, it's not clear who will play what role in his life...
Martin McDonagh is, as Árpád Kun Kékesi Kékesi puts it, the miracle and the beast of Anglo-Saxon drama. His blackly humorous comedies about violence and disillusionment are characterised by a precise, dramaturgically effective structure and a storytelling that maintains the suspense throughout. In his plays, which introduce grotesque characters and situations with cruel irony and sparkling humour, satire can turn into tragedy and tragedy into horror at any moment.
Length of the performance: 90 minutes
Thália Theatre
In the Thália Theatre, the focus is on light-hearted entertainment, in the spirit of the "Pest Broadway" of Nagymező Street. The Thália Winter Garden, inaugurated in 2019, is a little more serious, while the Arizona Studio is home to independent productions. In 2017, the capital reaffirmed its confidence in the management, with Gábor Kálomista applying for the post of managing director and Géza Bereményi as an advisor.
