JAZZ JUNIORS | HILARIOUS DISASTERS

Hilarious Disasters is a new project by Ukrainian pianist Kateryna Ziabliuk, founded in 2023. All compositions are her own, the inspiration for which she has taken directly from Ukrainian folk music, traditional jazz, elements of metal and sampling field recordings. These seemingly opposing directions intertwine with each other with free improvisation, like in a big sandbox, where the band has a wide space for bravado and witty experimentation. This allows Hilarious Disasters to be a flexible, open-minded band, where the instrumentation and arrangements are variable depending on the concept, and the compositions sound different at each performance. The energy the collective strives to maintain is an indomitable will to live, a joy wrapped in longing, but also with a balanced dose of absurdity and frenzy.

Aporia, Drafts & Hilarious Disasters is a programme by the band Hilarious Disasters, which was created to crown the leader's travels between Italy, Ukraine and Poland in recent years. It includes a suite about the hero of stories popular in southern Italy, the adventurer Corto Maltese, reinterpretations of Slavic ritual folk songs, as well as pieces inspired by the poetry of the Futurist period.
