What is food? Why is it not enough to just be full? What makes a meal a memorable experience?

Food design researcher Márta Merkl of the ONYX Creative Community invites self-taught foodies and enthusiastic gourmets to dinner, where we will explore these questions in the context of her doctoral research at the Corvinus University of Budapest's Doctoral School of Business Administration.

Who hasn't wanted to be a restaurant critic and share their dining experience with the world?! Now we're making that dream come true and inviting 32 lucky guests to join us for an evening and share their unvarnished opinions.

During this research experience, guests are invited to join us for two consecutive free dinners and a group discussion at our table of sixteen. During the evening, the selected guests will be asked about their dining experience of our METROPOLIS menu, which presents the contrasts of metropolitan life, so that we can learn more about ourselves from the guest's point of view in a reflective conversation.

Food design is the design of food and drink, the design of a devices, space, events, service or systems related to a meal or food. From the beginning, our philosophy has been based on a combination of gastronomy, art, science and sustainability, of which food design is an integral part.

Since opening the Onyx Workshop, Márta has been exploring the role of interactivity and storytelling in our dining experiences through observations, guest feedback and now focus group interviews. Based on the feedback from our selected critics, we want to consciously incorporate these evaluations into our Metropolis experience, which will bring the "Tastes of Budapest" to life this year, 150 years old.

What does the metropolitan gastronomic experience mean to you? To apply, please follow our few-minute questionnaire, where we ask you, among other things, about this:

Your application is due by midnight on 18 March.

This time we are looking for individual participants or dinner partners. We cannot accommodate groups of 3 or more.

Please fill in a separate questionnaire for each applicant!

The language of the research and dinner is Hungarian. The discussion will be audio-recorded. A declaration of anonymity is required for participation in the research.
