Schedule

In his last musical drama, Parsifal, Wagner writes of fear of the temptations of the world and sinful desires, embedded in a story of redemption. The work is really a festive stage play, not an opera. Many, perhaps out of their own fear, have criticised the composer of the music and the libretto for what is both the virtue and the particular complexity of the piece, namely that it presents a religious theme in a personal tone, mixing religious and profane notions of love. After Porgy and Bess and The Fairy Queen, the production's scenery is once again designed by Sebastian Hannak, and directed by artistic director András Almási-Tóth.

Location

Hungarian State Opera

The Hungarian State Opera House is the only theatre in Hungary with a large company, specialising in operas and ballets. The building is one of Budapest's most important 19th century monuments. It was built in neo-Renaissance style according to the plans of Miklós Ybl. The richly decorated interior was designed by renowned Hungarian artists, including Mór Than, Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely.
