Miika Pelkonen (FI): The trick that cannot be explained

In 1960, Lewis Ganson and Dai Vernon published the guide More Inner Secrets of Card Magic. One trick in the book is entitled The Trick That Cannot Be Explained. The name is due to the fact that magician Dai Vernon could not explain the secret of the trick to author Lewis Ganson, because it changes with each performance.

In fact, the secret is based on a special card trick and the philosophy of magic. The work questions the whole concept of magic as a thoughtful and rehearsed performance, as it is largely based on luck and the magician's ability to react. The magician trusts his luck and when a suitable coincidence presents itself, he claims that this was exactly the trick he had prepared for. The secret, then, lies in the magician's assumption that the coincidence is premeditated.
In the performance, Miika Pelkonen performs the trick for one person at a time, but the rest of the audience can watch the trick from the side. The person performing the trick is asked to sit at the table opposite the magician.
Miika Pelkonen is a multiple Finnish champion magician and European champion in card magic.
